Proton Planning

Since 1998, when CMS successfully completed the new proton planning installation at Massachusetts General Hospital, CMS has consistently offered treatment innovations to the proton planning community. Proton therapy gives oncologists better control of the radiation-dose distribution; resulting in fewer harmful side effects, more direct irradiation of the tumor, and increased tumor control. Proton treatment centers, worldwide, rely on CMS for their treatment planning needs. Today, CMS has more active sites than any other treatment planning company—and for a good reason: CMS has continuously enhanced XiO and Focal to give our proton clients the very best treatment planning options.

Overview at a glance

Comprehensive Planning Capabilities

Spot Scanning XiO delivers comprehensive planning functionality that addresses all your clinical needs. CMS’s integrated planning capabilities support a range of treatment modalities including:
  • Broad Beam supporting Scattered or wobbled beams, SOBP via rotating wheels or ripple filters. Supports apertures, MLC and compensation filters and includes MU calculations.*
  • Spot Scanning with IMPT and including nuclear interactions, lateral inhomogenities and substops.*
  • Image based Ocular planning with OcuPro allowing the use of multi-modality images for the accurate delineation and treatment of eye tumors with protons.*

Intuitive IMPT Planning*

IMPT CMS’s easy-to-use prescription-based solution represents the industry standard for planning. XiO features an intuitive graphical interface for rapid modification of DVH prescriptions, and performs optimization and dose calculations quickly and accurately. Individual beams or all beams can be optimized giving different approaches to a complex problem. Simple prescription panels provide the ability to solve complex problems without sharp learning curves.

Image-Guided Eye Planning*

OcuPro Intergrated tools allow for the easy creation of ocular proton treatments based on the actual imaged tumour from multipule imaging sources. Several images can be used for contouring, eye and tumor structures may be adjusted to account for optimum treatment position (gaze angle). With CMS, users will be able to adjust translation, rotation and torsion of structures on actual images, copy structures between image sets (CT, MRI, PET), and calculate dose for the final treatment plan.

Automated Planning Tools

Contouring Reduce planning time and increase clinical efficiency with the most advanced suite of planning functionality. XiO’s automated image fusion delivers rapid and reliable registration of multiple data sets. Automated contouring tools, including patented auto-segmentation functionality and powerful drawing and editing features, allow quick and easy identification and delineation of target volumes and critical structures. Flexible plan review features powerful dose visualization and analysis tools in a customizable user layout.

Increase System Performance with the Latest Technology Tools

XiO leverages the speed and performance capabilities of the Linux operating system and the processing power of dual Intel processors to deliver superior 3D rendering, real-time image manipulation, and fast calculation times. XiO operates in a client-server architecture and is specifically designed for multi-workstation/multi-site configurations, delivering robust network performance in the most demanding clinical environments.
