The addition of a Monte Carlo algorithm for electron beams allows clinicians to perform more complex planning with electron beams or combinations of photon and electron beams in order to offer the best patient care.

Dose Computation Accuracy

electron monte carlo Use of the Electron Monte Carlo algorithm results in a dramatic improvement in the quality of doses calculated for surface irregularities, complex internal tissue structures, highly irregular field shapes and extended distances. Accurate dose computation increases the possibility that disease will be cured, decreases the probability of undesirable side effects and ensures the quality of the clinical data that is the foundation for more effective treatments in the future.

Calculation Speed

electron monte carlo The application of variance reduction techniques produces calculation times measured in minutes rather than hours. The final dose calculation is controlled by setting either the number of histories or the standard uncertainty value determining the overall accuracy of the plan and the amount of time to run the plan. During calculation, the doses are displayed at regular intervals showing the current state of the dose calculation process. Options to stop and continue the dose calculation give you complete control over when the calculation has run long enough or the option to get more precise values.
